( Project Goals ) Crafting a Digital Experience Worthy of a Master Sushi Chef
Sushi Kashiba is one of Seattle’s most celebrated fine-dining destinations, led by Shiro Kashiba—apprentice to Jiro Ono and the first formally trained Japanese sushi chef on the West Coast of the United States. As the restaurant prepared to open its doors, the digital presence needed to reflect the same level of precision, restraint, and artistry found at the counter. Studio Five was selected to design a website that would quietly elevate the brand, showcase the cuisine, and establish a refined online identity worthy of one of the most respected names in Japanese fine dining.
( Challenges )
Sushi Kashiba required a digital presence that matched the precision, restraint, and cultural significance of its dining experience. As the restaurant prepared to open, the challenge was not simply to create a website, but to design a quietly sophisticated digital counterpart to one of the most respected sushi counters in the United States. The website needed to:
-
Reflect the artistry and discipline of Shiro Kashiba’s culinary heritage without overt promotion or excess.
-
Showcase the food, presentation, and atmosphere in a way that felt refined and intentional.
-
Establish credibility and visibility at launch, supporting press interest and critical attention.
-
Remain timeless and minimal, avoiding trends that could detract from the brand’s longevity.
-
Perform reliably under increased traffic as national and local media coverage grew.
( Solution )
A Minimalist, High-End Website Focused on Culinary Artistry
-
The primary objective of the project was not marketing or promotion, but presentation. The website needed to act as a visual extension of the restaurant—subtle, intentional, and uncompromising in quality.
-
Studio Five designed a minimalist WordPress website that places food, atmosphere, and craft at the center of the experience. The visual language was carefully calibrated to mirror the restaurant’s interior design, using a restrained color palette and refined typography to reinforce sophistication and calm. Every design decision was made to avoid excess, allowing imagery and spacing to carry the narrative.
-
While the site itself is intentionally simple in function, it was built on a strong technical foundation. SEO best practices were incorporated into the codebase to ensure discoverability without overt promotion. The platform was optimized for performance, reliability, and long-term maintenance—supporting press coverage and traffic spikes without disruption.
-
Studio Five also provided ongoing hosting, maintenance, and content updates, ensuring the site remained current and responsive as media attention increased following the restaurant’s opening.
(Results )
The completed website launched alongside Sushi Kashiba’s opening and immediately served as a polished, authoritative digital reference point for guests and media alike.
-
The website supported increased visibility through local and national press coverage.
-
Content updates and press features were added quickly and seamlessly as reviews were published.
-
The site delivered a calm, informative experience where guests could explore the menu, location, and philosophy without distraction.
-
Performance remained stable during traffic surges thanks to proactive hosting and optimization.
-
Rather than competing for attention, the website quietly reinforced the restaurant’s reputation for excellence.

The Sushi Kashiba website positioned the restaurant as a cultural and culinary landmark, translating the discipline, artistry, and restraint of Shiro Kashiba’s work into a digital format. This project stands as a rare example of design restraint at the highest level—where the digital experience exists not to impress, but to honor the craft it represents.
